Abstract
-
This mobile shrine is, at its essence, an alive and engaging structure honoring music as a medium for collective memory, identity, and story. The shrine's open frame welcomes everyone to add their personal ruminations, inviting them to think of music as a shared experience — creating an evolving archive.
This work is inspired by Shrine NYC, a Harlem cultural hub rooted in sound, creativity, and connectedness. While the shrine is inspired by Shrine NYC's ethos, it is mobile – it is designed to travel and carry memory across sites. The shrine includes curated artifacts, such as fabrics, records, and posters, along with a speaker; evoking both Shrine's mixed aesthetic, and the rich cultural exchanges of a jazz club, public space, or street corner.
