Abstract

The Harlem Islands” are a series of spaces that are intended to encompass the essence of Harlem. Spanning one block along 135th Street, these spaces create opportunities for learning, leisure, or community engagement while also acting as an extension of nearby local businesses. Each space is defined by a platform, traversed by multiple pathways. These platforms not only contain steps that allow for seamless movement between programs but also allow for spaces of leisure and social interaction throughout. Consequently, the distinctions between each program becomes more fluid, fostering a more dynamic experience for Harlem residents and visitors.
